Harriet Quimby, the unknown conqueror of the air.

Harriet Quimby (1875 - 1912) an American aviator and a film screenwriter. In 1911 he was awarded a US pilot certificate. by the Aero Club of America, becoming the first woman to obtain a pilot's license in the United States. In 1912 she became the first woman to fly across the English Channel. On April 16, 1912, he took off from Dover, England, on the road to Calais, France and made the flight in 59 minutes, landing about 40 km from Calais on a beach of Neufchâtel-Hardelot, Pas de Calais. She had become the first woman to fly an airplane through the English Channel.
His achievement received little attention from the media since the sinking of the Titanic occurred on April 15 (the previous day) consuming the public interest and the newspapers were filled with this news.

Although Harriet lived only until she was thirty-seven years old, she had a great influence on the role of women in aviation.
